Grosgrain ribbons are distinguished by their ribbed semblance. Transverse ribs are apparent due to the weft being more weighty than the warp of the fabric. It's also known as a corded fabric, in fact, a good description of grosgrain ribbon would be a corded fabric of plain weave.
